Staircases

To find staircases like these, you might just have to travel as far south as Louisiana. At least that's where we got our inspiration for one set of stairs in this recreated old house.
With antique fir treads and handrail, and a white newel post, risers, and skirtboard, a simple yet elegant Cajun-style staircase is born.
The beaded-board paneling on the lower staircase wall adds a special touch of down-home New Orleans.
This staircase leads up to a landing with a beautiful rounded-top cedar plank door, behind which is the cozy and private attic master suite.
Back downstairs, there is a second staircase in this old house, this one leading from the kitchen and dining rooms to the finished basement below.
And although you might expect this more utilitarian staircase to be more modest than the first, you would have underestimated our commitment to the project.
The reclaimed antique fir treads, gently curving cedar and fir handrail with contrasting white base, and glorious, clear-finished fir wainscoting make this staircase even more striking than the first.
