Deco Bath

Nothing says "old house" more, and in a more fun and exciting way, than an Art Deco bathroom.
Although this old house was actually minted in the early 1900s, we decided to "modernize" the main-floor bath by bringing it squarely into the streamlined age.
Black and white tile is a hallmark of the early-twentieth-century bathroom, and this one does it in spades. The white-tile wainscoting with black border, baseboards, and narrow accent strip is a classic treatment.
We continued our tile extravaganza with another feature often found in bathrooms of the '30s—a fully tiled shower enclosure separate from the tub.
Adding a little extra Deco pizzaz to this bathroom is the angular antique mirror, right out of the period, over the antique pedestal sink.
Finally, look down and you'll see that we didn't overlook that other ubiquitous feature of the '20s and '30s—the one-inch hexagonal flooring tile. We even iced that cake by adding the traditional daisy pattern in black.
