Cottage
Bedroom

What was once the main—and only—room in this tiny seaside cottage is now transformed into a cozy and comfortable bedroom.
Many of the themes begun in the sunroom and kitchen are continued in the bedroom. For example, the vaulted pine ceiling and cheerful golden wall color used in the kitchen are repeated in the bedroom.
Also continued here is the warm tongue-and-groove pine flooring found in both the sunroom and kitchen. And in keeping with the nautical lighting theme used throughout the cottage, an authentic gimballed solid-brass lantern mounted over the bed gives this room an especially "shippy" feel.
But by far the most outstanding feature of the bedroom has to be the lovely handcrafted built-in "furniture," first and foremost being the queen-sized platform bed. While its gracefully curved faux headboard lends considerable charm to the room, the four storage drawers beneath—two on either side—also make great practical use of the space.
Carefully designed to match the bed are two built-in cabinet closets that at first glance appear to be freestanding armoires. The curve of the headboard on the platform bed is echoed in the gently curved doors on each of the cabinet fronts. Old-fashioned crown moulding helps give these new cabinets the character and style of antique furniture. As with the kitchen and bath cabinets, the platform bed and cabinet closets are first painted, then sanded and varnished, to give them a rich, aged patina.
Finally, wooden blinds in the window echo the soft color of the ceilings and floors, and space-saving pocket doors connect this snug little bedroom to the adjoining kitchen and bath.
