Bathroom

As in the bedroom, themes begun in the sunroom and kitchen continue in the bath, creating a pleasing, unifed whole.
The central feature of this compact bathroom is the hand-made custom cabinetry, which mirrors many of the same design elements as those created for the kitchen and bedroom.
First painted a light and nautical navy blue, then sanded and varnished, these cabinets are "aged" for a weathered appearance and dressed with antique-reproduction clear-glass handles and pulls. And to extend the storage options in this diminutive bath, a handy towel rack in a chrome finish is mounted just above the toilet.
Care is taken with the lighting in this room to ensure it is both charming and functional. For charm, a nautical light in chrome over brass is installed above the mirror. For brighter illumination in a room where lighting is key, a fluorescent fixture is also installed on top of the upper cabinet, carefully tucked away behind the cabinet's crown moulding.
The sink and shower are fitted with matching old-style fixtures, in chrome over brass with contrasting white porcelain handles. For a little added flair, the ceramic-tiled countertop features a "watery" pattern, with veins of blue and seafoam green, bordered in white.
Following earlier themes, the vaulted ceiling is of solid pine, and a skylight trimmed in pine brings a splash of sunlight into this small but functional space. And again, as in both the kitchen and bedroom, the bathroom walls are painted a light golden color. But here beaded-board wainscoting in the same navy hue as the cabinets gives a unity to the room while also providing a nice color contrast.
And finally, underfoot, a welcome yet unexpected touch of luxury in this salty seaside cottage: a heated tile floor, warmed by electric coils set in the underlayment and controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat. Very sweet indeed.
