Bungalow
Exterior

With richly stained cedar siding and crisp white exterior trim, this new Craftsman bungalow says "Home Sweet Home" like few new houses can.
The saltbox shape of the Orcas allows a nearly full second floor, maximizing the square footage on its compact footprint. At roughly 1,500 square feet, this home is snug and cozy while still roomy enough for stretching out and relaxing. The expansive front porch, a full eight feet deep by thirty feet long, encourages the living space to spill out into the open yet sheltered air.
The exterior features many of the signature elements of its old-house counterparts:
- Sweeping eight-foot-deep front porch spanning the entire thirty-foot width of the house
- Beautifully handcrafted detailing on both front and back porches
- Deep roof overhangs featuring beaded-board soffit and exposed rafter tails
- Classic front-facing gable dormer
- Characteristic knee braces in the gable ends and dormer
- Beautiful, hand-stained cedar siding with narrow reveal and signature window and door trim
- Period-authentic antique reproduction exterior lighting
Other details include the massive, Craftsman-style exterior lighting in black cast iron (from Rejuvenation), which adorns both the front and back porches as well as the north side of the home. The large casement windows along the front and in the front-facing gable dormer provide plenty of natural sunlight inside and open up the saltwater views. Finally, the use of 40-year architectural composition roofing adds not only solid protection from the elements but also a touch of style as well.
